Mattress Size Guide

2ft 6" Small Single Mattresses
The small single mattress is ideal for narrower frames like children’s beds or bench-type beds. It measures 2’6” x 6’3” (30” x 75”) or 75 x 190 cm. While an average-sized adult may find it comfortable enough, those who prefer a little more space by the sides would be better off with the standard single. On the other hand, the small single mattress is ideal for small bedrooms. It is commonly used for children's rooms and as a daybed. The good thing about the small single mattress is that it is easier to move around as it doesn't take so much space The small single mattress can also be used as a zip and link mattress where two mattress can be zipped together to form a double bed. This can be ideal in a guest room where you can then accommodate a couple who either like single beds or prefer a double bed. This can be seen in many hotels.

3ft Single Mattresses
The standard single mattress is 3ft x 6’3”; 36” x 75” (90 x 190 cm). When buying a single mattress, make sure that you have measured your bedframe beforehand as the difference between the small single and the standard single mattress may not be that apparent. Single mattresses come in a wide range of fillings including basic fillings, innersprings or memory foam models. The 3ft single mattress is ideal for a single person and it can also used as a child`s bed making it suitable as the child grows up, or as a guest bed if there is slightly more room in the bedroom. It also can be used as a link and zip mattress giving the equivalent size as a superking mattress. This can be very useful if the partners sharing the bed need different types of mattress. This could be because of back problems. Two different style mattress could then be linked together.

4ft Small Double Mattresses
Small double mattresses measure 4’x6’3” (48” x 75”), or 120 x 190 cm. For average-sized adults who don’t mind sleeping close to the other, the small double is a good buy. It is also suitable for the single sleeper who just prefers having more bed space. The small double mattress would also be the perfect choice if the bedroom is not very wide but needs to accommodate a couple. However it must be remembered that the small double mattress only gives the equivalent of 2 ft width for each person, whereas when they slept in a single bed a person generally had about 2 ft 6ins. If possible and the bedroom is wide enough, it would always be advisable to have a 4ft X 6ins double mattress. This is always assuming the bedroom can accommodate it. Like most mattress sizes, small double mattresses come in various materials such as open coil, innersprings, and memory foam.

4ft 6" Double mattresses
At 4”6” x 6’3” (54” x 75”) or 135 x 190 cm, the double mattress is a good size for couples sharing a bed. This double bed is the most popular size for most bedrooms as it not only gives each partner a reasonable amount of room for them to have an undisturbed night`s sleep but it can also leave room either side of the bed for bedside tables. If you have room in the guest bedroom then a 4ft X 6ft 3ins double mattress will also allow you to sleep couples as well as a single person. Choose from various materials and construction like latex, innersprings and memory foam. You can also opt for pocket springs which have individual metal coils embedded in soft material—this type of mattress minimizes motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other.

5ft Queen Size mattresses
For those who are looking for extra sleeping space, either because they like to stretch out more or they are taller than average, the queen is a mattress size that will probably work for them. This is one of the ideal choices for couples who have to share the same bed but still want to maintain their own personal space. At 60" wide and 80" long, the queen is 6 inches wider and 8 inches longer than the standard double mattress. For some people, though, the queen may not offer ample space for two people. It is a good choice for guest rooms, and master bedrooms that are short of space.

5ft Kingsize Mattresses
The kingsize mattress certainly has a lot of room for lying around and lounging on the bed, at 5’ wide and 6’6” long (60” x 78”) or 150 x 200 cm, a kingsize mattress is big enough so that a sleeping couple can turn and change positions without disturbing each other. A king size bed in a large enough bedroom makes a real statement and something you can be very proud of. There are a wide choice of king size mattress to suit your own particular requirements. These include pocket spring, memory foam or a combination of different types of filling. If your bedroom can accommodate a kingsize bed, why not go ahead and indulge yourself?

6ft Superking Mattresses
The ultimate in sleeping comfort, the superking mattress has all the space you need for your bedroom. At 6’ x 6’6” (72” x 78) or 180 x 200 cm, a superking mattress makes for a comfortable family bed, or even just a decadent sleeping space. For the best sleeping experience all year round, choose a two-sided superking mattress: during summer months, use the cotton-covered side and simply flip over to the wool-covered side to stay toasty during winter. It is very important to ensure that the bedroom is wide enough to accommodate this size of mattress, as the whole effect could be spoilt if the bed is too wide and not allow any space either side of the bed for bedside tables. The super kingsize bed is the perfect choice for couples who like to stretch out in bed without disturbing their partner.
